Tim Atterton is a former lawyer, academic and venture capitalist; and now a professional Company Director and internationally acclaimed enterprise and organization development specialist. He has over 30 years’ experience in both academia and management consultancy with his professional expertise lying in the areas of strategic planning, entrepreneurship, innovation, organizational transformation and the management of change. Previously, Tim has held senior positions at two prestigious international Business Schools. From 1990 to 2000, he was Executive Director of the World-renown Small Business Centre at Durham University Business School in the United Kingdom; and between 2000 & 2006, he led the Bankwest Entrepreneurship & Business Development Unit at Curtin Business School in Perth, Western Australia. Despite his longstanding Business School affiliation, Tim regards himself fundamentally as a ‘practitioner’, rather than an ‘academic’. His international reputation and unique competence is founded upon an unparalleled conceptual understanding of business development theory, complemented by substantial practical and grounded business experience. Over the past three decades, Tim has worked with independent businesses and their stakeholders in more than 40 different countries and consulted to a wide range of prestigious international organisations including: The World Bank; United Nations Industrial Development Corporation; and the European Union. During the period 2000 to 2006, he was Chairman of Western Australia’s Small Business Development Corporation. Currently, Tim splits his time between: providing non-executive support to a portfolio of premium independent businesses; delivering high-level training programmes and Key-Note Conference Presentations; and international consultancy. He is Managing Director of Business Dynamics, a niche-market consulting firm that provides strategic planning and change management support to organizations of all size and type. Internationally, Tim is Strategic Advisor on SME Finance to both the Financial Services Deepening Kenya (FSDK) and Financial Sector Deepening Zambia (FSDZ) Projects. He, also, consults with many organizations worldwide on all aspects of SME Finance. Tim is a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Duke Corporate Education in the United States, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society for Manufacturing and the Arts (FRSA) and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
