This report was undertaken by the Central Bank of Kenya’s National Payments System Division, FSD Kenya and the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) to better understand the emerging development of mobile money in Kenya. The findings are based on a survey of 3,000 households that was carried out from the 26th of August to the 31st of October 2008 by the Steadman Group, using Safaricom M-Pesa user data for 1,210 M-Pesa users. The analysis in the report was conducted by Tavneet Suri of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and William Jack of Georgetown University.
