Financial Sector Deepening Kenya (FSD Kenya), Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) and The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) – the Platform for Remittances, Investments, and Migrants’ Entrepreneurship programme PRIME Africa – launched findings from the role of SACCOs as international remittance providers in Kenya study in an event on Thursday, 17th October from 8:30am to 1:00pm EAT
The study was conducted to uncover the challenges and opportunities within the SACCO remittances landscape, particularly in rural communities, and to highlight the potential for SACCOs to enhance inclusive finance.
Over the course of the study, various stakeholders were engaged, including regulators, policymakers, payment service providers (PSPs), SACCOs, and consumers of remittance services either through individual discussions or stakeholder events.
The purpose of this event was not only to share the final research findings but also to discuss how stakeholders can collectively leverage these insights to maximise the positive impact of remittances on Kenya’s economy and its people.
