William Smith is a principal consultant in the financial and private sector portfolio at Oxford Policy Management. His work focuses on financial inclusion and private sector development. Previously he was team leader of the private sector and markets programme at the Overseas Development Institute and spent twenty years in Southeast Asia working on financial services for the poor and rural livelihoods as practitioner, consultant and within a donor organisation. As a programme officer with the Ford Foundation in Vietnam and Indonesia, he developed and managed a portfolio of financial sector projects. Earlier, William worked in Vietnam as Project Director for the World Council of Credit Unions, rural finance adviser in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and with international NGO ActionAid.
