Wanjiku Karanja
Livelihoods specialist
As a Livelihoods Specialist at FSD Kenya, Wanjiku contributes to cross-cutting project design, planning, and execution for a diverse portfolio of core FSD Kenya and special projects within the FSD Network. Anchored within FSD Kenya’s agriculture finance project, her work is at the intersection of inclusive finance, livelihoods development, and economic resilience for smallholder households and underserved communities. With a background in anthropology, a PRINCE2 certification, and over a decade of experience, she has worked across regional development non-profit organisations, for-profit, tech-based (micro)insurance service provider, consulting practice, and financial sector development.
Previously at FSD Kenya, she managed a SACCO reforms project, aimed at enhancing the capacities of deposit-taking SACCOs to comply with prudential regulations. She also led the design and implementation of a financial graduation pilot, testing market-led approaches to improve the livelihoods of ultra-poor households. Wanjiku thrives in roles that blend strategic thinking, innovative transformation, and operational execution. She is passionate about shaping socio-economic systems to be more inclusive, just, and resilient.
