The Insurance Sub-Sector Report draws on data from the 2024 FinAccess Household Survey to examine insurance inclusion across Kenya, focusing on access, usage, quality, and impact. Covering individuals aged 18 years and above across all 47 counties, the report analyses insurance uptake across population groups, including rural communities, women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities, while also exploring the role of insurance in climate-related investments and financial resilience.
The findings show a slight decline in insurance access between 2021 and 2024, particularly among rural populations, women, and youth, alongside a widening gender gap in insurance use. However, insurance usage has continued to grow, indicating increasing reliance on insurance among existing users. Quality concerns remain significant, with policyholders reporting declined or delayed claims. The report underscores the need to address affordability, improve consumer awareness, enhance accessibility for vulnerable groups, and leverage digital solutions to expand inclusive and sustainable insurance coverage.
