Launch of the Gender-Disaggregated MSME Credit Dashboard

November 10th, 2025

Kenya’s financial sector has taken a step towards greater inclusion with the launch of the Gender-Disaggregated MSME Credit Dashboard, an initiative by the Kenya Bankers Association with support from FSD Kenya.

Speaking at the launch event of the dashboard held in Nairobi on Friday, 7th November 2025, FSD Kenya Chief Executive Officer Tamara Cook stressed the importance of closing the gender data gap in MSME finance, reminding stakeholders that women-led enterprises are a vital part of Kenya’s economy, yet they remain underrepresented in formal credit markets. Watch Tamara’s full speech below.

The MSME Data Portal is designed to provide clear, accessible insights into Kenya’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Drawing on data from the Metropol Credit Reference Bureau, the platform offers a unique window into the financing patterns, performance, and participation of MSMEs across the country.

A key feature of the portal is its gender-disaggregated data, which highlights how women-owned and men-owned businesses access and use financial services. Through interactive dashboards and visual analytics, users can explore trends in credit, deposits, and other indicators – helping policymakers, financial institutions, and development partners identify opportunities to close gender gaps and support inclusive growth.

By making high-quality MSME data openly available, the Kenya Bankers Association aims to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and promote a more resilient, equitable, and inclusive financial sector.
