Chart of the week: The growth of digital banking

This chart uses all available household-level nationally representative survey data, in particular FSD Kenya’s FinAccess household surveys and Intermedia’s Financial Inclusion Insights Tracker Surveys (FIITS) to explore the degree to which M-Shwari (launched in November of 2012) has been taken up by the Kenyan adult population between 2013 and 2016. It also looks at M-Shwari’s penetration for subgroups of the population defined by household residence (Nairobi, non-Nairobi urban areas and rural areas) and wealth (using an asset-based index). You can create custom visualizations of a key set of financial inclusion indicators from all available FinAccess surveys using our data exploration tool.
