Sukhwinder Arora

Over the past 30 years, Sukhwinder’s core work has been on development, delivery and review of policies and programmes designed to enable poor people to prepare for and benefit from economic development opportunities. Sukhwinder currently is an associate of Oxford Policy Management (OPM) and has previously worked as Principal Consultant for financial and private sector development, OPM (2008-15). He worked as Private Sector Development Adviser, at the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in New Delhi, London and Dhaka offices during 1996-2007. During 2014-15, he has been working with the FSD Africa and the wider FSD network to improve their measurement practices. He has led various assignments such as: Evaluation of Effectiveness of FMO supported (M)SME banks in South-Asia (FMO); Evaluation of Impacts of Samridhi Fund Investments in India (FCDO); Providing strategic support for the implementation of the FCDO Bangladesh funded “Business Finance for the poor programme” (FCDO Bangladesh), Development of Rural Finance Policy and Strategy (Government of Zambia/ IFAD) and Feasibility and design for SIMBA (FCDO). He has contributed to two books: The Poor and their Money (with Stuart Rutherford) and Small Customer, Big Market: Commercial Banks in Microfinance (with Malcolm Harper); and served as chairman of UK Microfinance club during 2010-13. He has worked in over 30 countries, mostly in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
